the owners purchased a small single-story suburban tract home on a nice street adjacent to forestland. there was no view of lake tahoe, and the front door did not face the street.
m+a was asked to create a "tahoe cabin" that would become a gathering place for family and friends for years to come, to enjoy both winter sports and summer relaxation.
we emphasized structure and materials that captured nature and the feel of the mountains. forms and overhangs added function and interest to the new cabin. the front door was relocated to address the street and welcome guests. the garage doors became a statement of the whole rather than a separate uninteresting component. large windows and outdoor decks captured views of the lake and adjacent forestland.
